NOT FILM—it just looks like it

NOT FILM—
it just looks like it

Of course, only real film actually looks like film. If you can use film, you should—there’s nothing else like it.

If you want to shoot digital, these film profiles are designed to give digital images a more appealing color, the one aspect of film that can be reasonably simulated.

Measurements were used to match real films scanned by a Nikon Coolscan 9000, a film scanner renowned for its color.

It’s not film, it’s the next best thing.

Any camera or phone camera supported by Adobe Camera Raw will work with our profiles, provided the images were shot in raw format.

There are several methods for using our profiles: Standard, Advanced, and Pro.

Standard   /   The image is adjusted and then a profile (3D LUT) is applied
Advanced   /   A 3D LUT is applied before adjustments, for higher quality editing
Pro   /   A larger 3D LUT is applied before adjustments, for maximum quality

Supported methods by app (latest version required):

Adobe Photoshop
  /   Pro
Photoshop Elements, Express, and Mobile are NOT supported

Adobe Lightroom Classic   /   Standard, Advanced, Pro
Pro requires the Apply LUT plugin (unaffiliated and sold separately)

Adobe Lightroom   /   Standard, Advanced

How does it work?

NOT FILM—it works differently

NOT FILM film profiles transform your digital camera’s color by using 3D LUTs (Three-Dimensional Look-Up Tables), which are superior to presets (recipes for sliders).

Real film color has abrupt color transitions and complex color relationships that only 3D LUTs can emulate.

Who’s behind all of this?

Original colors
Presets (recipes) adjust eight colors and the colors between are evenly blended
3DLUTs can adjust any color, and abrupt color transitions are possible

Original colors
Presets affect all colors when the color for shadows, midtones or highlights is adjusted
3D LUTs can adjust color at any brightness without affecting all colors

NOT FILM—but made by a photographer

NOT FILM—
but made by a photographer

I’m a photographer that grew tired of labs ruining my film, so I switched to digital.

I was disappointed with digital color and found that none of the available film profiles looked like properly scanned film, so I built my own profiles.

There is an archive of discontinued film in my fridge that I plan to profile.
